The City of Brownsville Planning and Community Development Department strives to improve the overall quality of life of Brownsville residents through the adequate regulation of development, administration of the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), HOME, and other entitlements grants given to the City. Our mission is to deliver the best possible service for our citizens in every aspect of our department.

Department Structure

The Planning Department is an essential part of the City of Brownsville and is divided into four sections:

Comprehensive Planning – Responsible for long term planning projects occurring throughout the City in addition to implementation of plans

Community Development – Provides economic and social assistance for needy families and neighborhoods by using government grants and programs

Zoning – Upholds zoning and platting regulations established by the local development code and state regulations

Brownsville Metropolitan Planning Organization – Plans and implements long term transportation planning
